Arcadia 4 Title Changed
My publisher has changed the old title of the next Arcadia book, CROSSING THE ÆTHYR, to the spiffy new (drumroll): BANISHING THE DARK. If you’ve already pre-ordered from Amazon, no worries: it will update automatically whenever Amazon refreshes it in their database.
When I announced this on Twitter/Facebook this week, several readers asked me why. I think when it got reviewed by the Sales and Marketing teams, they said, “How the FREAK do we pronounce this?” (Though, the officially answer is “to improve discoverability,” or something corporate like that.) I really can’t blame them: it was a little left-of-center. Hey, good thing is, now you don’t have to figure out how to do the Æ symbol if you ever have to type the title! And BANISHING THE DARK not only has a magical verb like the other books (KINDLING, SUMMONING, BINDING), but, like my editor said, it also speaks to Arcadia’s journey over the course of the first four books. So it worked out nicely, I think.

Also of note: I got a peek at the cover art, and it’s really cool—moody and evocative. I think readers will like it. I’m not sure when the publisher will be ready to reveal it, but I’d imagine it won’t be too long.

It’s a good change. Accessible, but still gets the point across. I can’t believe I’m even thinking about the last book of Arcadia, it makes me melancholy. Excited, but also *sigh*. Fortunately we have Bitter Spirits to look forward too. 🙂

Never say never. I sometimes catch myself thinking of the new direction I’ve set up at the end and feel compelled to explore it. Very tempting. Maybe when I clear my writing plate at the end of the year…
